Carol Knits: Another Knitted Hat collection

This was a fun hat to make but did take a while (with one false start!)  I found that pattern in the Norah Gaughan Collection #7  and used organic, plant-dyed, predator-friendly Thirteen Mile Yarn in Rose heather.  It’s knitted from the top down, knitted the “fingers” sideways and back and forth casting on the fingers and then binding off to create the fingers.  Then I joined the crown and knitted the rise in the round and bound off the band.  While the pattern called for you to continue knitting a longer band in stockinette stitch and fold under, I altered the pattern to just make a band in 2×2 ribbing to pull it in a little.  I still made it too big and would switch to a smaller needle when doing the band next time.

Melanie from The Yarn Lounge took this picture and posted on their FO Friday blog Thanks Melanie!!

Carol Knits: Knitted Hat – Striped

This was a fun hat to make, although it took a bit of time.  I will have to look up the pattern again.  I used wool in deep purple and gold.  One of the hats for my staff at Christmas.  (I hope David liked it as he ended up with that one!)

I am finally getting around to posting all my Christmas hats on the blog.  It’s been so busy while being away in December and then catching up afterward.  And now it’s already February.  But I will try and get the rest of the hats up and edit the pattern and yarn on this one.

Next knitting project: elbow-length fingerless gloves

I’ve started a new project with some Classic Elite Wool BamBoo Yarn I have.  The color is Treasure #1660 that I picked up at The Yarn Lounge.  I had two skeins and am making elbow-length fingerless gloves from a pattern I found in Modern Top-Down Knitting by Kristina McGowan.  I’m doing the “pleated arm warmers”  and shortening them to elbow length, mostly because I don’t have enough yarn in that dye lot to make them long enough to cover upper arms.  I like the pattern and the pleated design.  I learned how to crochet to make the edging on the first glove.  So trying to quickly finish the second one tonight!

Mohair and stainless steel scarf

I finally finished the mohair and stainless steel scarf.  It turned out better than I thought. I’m making a second one in blue mohair (fine) and cream stainless steel.    I got the yarn from Habu textiles.  I haven’t worn the scarf yet so I will see how it wears and holds up.  If feels so fragile, I’m almost afraid to wear it.

home sick and new knitting blog

So I’m home sick and piddling around with my blogs.  I moved my knitting pics off and started a knitting blog.  We’ll see how long that lasts!  But I am knitting more and thought I would dedicated a page, carolisknitting,  just to that and leave this as my central site of random thoughts.  I have found hundreds of knitters who tweet.  I didn’t realize knitters were such a community.

This morning I’m watching “Rendition” – a rather intense movie to start the day with while I wait for the last info I need to finish a grant I’m writing.

Another knitted hat: Cabled Brim

Cabled Brim Hat

This hat is still in progress, it’s taking forever!  But the knitting part is finally done.  Unfortunately i can’t remember which pattern book I found the pattern in.  I used a wool yarn in a tweedy blend.  The hat is knitted long so the brim folds up.  The cabling is easy.  I just need to add buttons to hold the brim in place.  I’ll post it again when I put the buttons on it and hopefully find the pattern information!  (That’s what happens when you just copy the pattern to carry around with the project)

Another Knitted Hat Series – cabled/ribbed with puff

I’ve made this pattern before, from a One Skein knits book series.  It’s easy to make yet has a nice cabled and ribbed pattern.  I used a dark blue wool yarn from Mission Falls.  I used this pattern last year to make hats for my sister-in-law and her family.  While I had sizing problems then, this hat definitely fits an adult.  I think I will make a few more in the Mission Fall colors I have.
